2010 Race Components
Archery - must complete to finish. The race begins with archery at the Nature Center. Each team member shoots 2 arrows at a designated target to earn time deducted off the team’s finish time.
Orienteering - must complete to finish. Teams will use a compass and map to navigate through the course to find 6 orienteering points. Teams must make it to all 6 of the marked orienteering points. Each orienteering point is flagged and has a punch for marking the team map to prove the orienteering point was found.
Biking - 5 miles - must complete to finish. All members of each team will bike, with staggered starts, down the Greenway to a check point. All team members must be present to pass through this check point and return to the Nature Center. Teams must provide their own bikes & locks.
Backpacking - 4 miles - must complete to finish. Adult teams must transport 100 lbs. (weight provided) (60lbs for teen teams) along Cook’s trail to Sandy Creek Park. The weight may be divided among the four team members. The sand must be emptied on the beach at Sandy Creek Park before the team may proceed to the finish line.
Canoe - 2 miles - must complete to finish. Team members will canoe across Lake Chapman. Teams may transport their backpacks and respective weights (100 lbs. per adult team or 60 lbs per teen team) across the lake with either 2 members with weight (100lbs) OR a maximum of 3 members without weight.
Check Points - must complete to finish. Teams must pass through 3 checkpoints throughout the race. Check points will be marked on the team map. All team members must be together to pass through a checkpoint.
Special Tests - optional for time deductions. Teams will be challenged to optional special tests along the race course to earn time deductions from their finish time. These tests will vary and may test the team’s ecological IQ. There is no penalty for questions answered incorrectly.
Winning Teams - The team that successfully completes all elements of the course with the fastest adjusted time earns the title of Eco-Adventure 2010 Champions! Awards & prizes will be given to the top 3 Adult teams and top 3 teen teams with the fast adjusted finish time.
